So glad I signed up! Kat and Tom have been amazing in breaking down my technique and helping me to complete my first Ironman. Out with the old (bad) habits and in with the new. Who knew that swimming, when done properly, could be so effortless. Whether you’re looking to get into open water swimming or you’re already pretty proficient but want to take your swimming to the next level, i’d definitely recommend meeting the team to see how they can help. Thanks guys!

Swim Open have enabled me to achieve a long-held goal of swimming confidently across open expanses of sea, something I had thought I could never achieve. I had previously found swimming for long periods in the sea tiring and disappointing, having to stop regularly for breath and generally finding any significant distance a trial. Now I can confidently swim for long periods, allowing me to achieve goals of uninterrupted swimming across bays which previously I could only dream of. Most importantly, I now see swimming in a total different light: as a real pleasure that I look forward to with excitement and a fantastically invigorating way of enjoying nature. Their technique and enthusiasm have transformed my swimming experience

I’m part of my university Triathlon team and I race competitively. I took lessons with Tom to improve my open water technique and to gain a competitive advantage for the upcoming Triathlon season. The lessons were really beneficial and my swim times have greatly improved. It was very helpful to learn how to swim straighter and more efficiently and also to improve my racing tactics. Swimming has always been my least favourite of all the three disciplines in triathlon but now I have much more confidence in my swimming and I really look forward to my swim training sessions. I’d highly recommend Swim Open – the teaching is exceptional and their teaching venues are great.

As an experienced Ironman triathlete who has been competing for more than a decade I thought I had nothing left to learn. However taking part in the Open Water Experts course has totally revolutionised my open water swimming. Kat’s expertise really is amazing, she has helped me to adapt my stroke to make me much more effective in the water, I’ve found that I’m swimming faster and actually using less energy. My racing times have improved as a result and these days I really look forward to my swim training sessions. My only regret is that I should have enrolled on the course sooner!

I signed up to do my first triathlon to raise money for charity. The only problem being that the swimming part was in a lake and I’d never swum in open water before. I joined the OW Virgins course with SwimOpen and it as really great, we started right from the beginning, learning how to put your wetsuit on properly and getting used to the colder water. By the end we were swimming full circuits of the lake! When it came to my triathlon I was totally prepared and it was an amazing experience. I’d highly recommend the OW Virgins course – the teaching was exceptional and the other swimmers were really fun too.

I’d never tried open water swimming before but I joined the OW Virgins course with SwimOpen and it was absolutely fantastic – I’d highly recommend it. I’d always done a bit of pool swimming to keep fit but i’d never actually tried open water swimming, I wanted to challenge myself so I gave it go. Tom and Kat are both excellent teachers, I learnt all the open water swimming basics and now I’m a total open water convert. There really is no comparison between open water swimming and pool swimming, I just love getting my wetsuit on and getting closer to nature. Its a really great way to wind down after a busy week. Doing the OW Virgins course has improved my swim confidence so much that I’m now training for my first Triathlon in the summer. Wish me luck!

Would thoroughly recommend Tom as an instructor.  I hated swimming lessons at school, being shouted at from the side of the pool is not a great way to learn.  I wanted to relearn swimming to improve my fitness and I was very lucky to have found Tom in his previous role.  In just ten one hour sessions I was able to go from head up breaststroke to a pretty confident front crawl.  Tom is a patient and understanding coach and very well qualified to teach all abilities.

I grew up on the South East coast in South Africa, swimming daily in my childhood, but hadn’t been swimming at all during my time in London – around twenty years! Whilst I wasn’t a complete beginner, I didn’t think of myself as a strong swimmer and – even though I wanted to – I lacked the confidence to swim front crawl in either swimming pools or open water.  After less than three months working with Tom in one-to-one sessions, I find that I am stronger in the water than most of my contemporaries. His patient and clear instruction worked on my particular technique, significantly improving my endurance with the direct consequence that my confidence has improved – both in and out of the water.  Following on from Tom’s personal training, I am happy to swim in the open sea again and found my love of the water completely restored. Importantly, with a clearer understanding of my capabilities, I am able to challenge myself without taking unnecessary risk, and I credit Tom for tailoring his tutorship to the swimmer, rather than blandly tutoring one ‘how to swim’.
